How to: Depot your lipsticks into a palette

Hello,

Way before the spring cleaning for the Chinese New Year, I was looking out for empty palettes to depot my lipsticks into as carrying a palette is much easier than carrying a loadful of lipsticks in the kit. There were a few options available such as the Make Up For Ever empty plastic case or even stackable 5g jars. However, neither were my choices as they were over the budget or were just too fussy (ie. opening the jars).

Eventually, I searched on Ebay for empty pan palettes and I came across this for only SGD4 after shipping!

EDIT: My seller is no longer active but I found a seller that ships the palette for only SGD3.89! Here is the link: http://www.ebay.com.sg/itm/15-PCS-26mm-Empty-Eyeshadow-Aluminum-Pans-Palette-/330617581154?pt=US_Makeup_Eyes&hash=item4cfa57ee62

I used to have the same palette, purchased from Coastal Scents at a much jacked up price. Now I know where I can purchase these palettes for cheap. At Ebay! Of course, you can use them for eyeshadows or pressed pigments, not just for lipsticks.

These are small, handy and easy to use, just perfect!

These are the lipsticks that I am planning to depot. Most of them are my wet n wild mega last lipsticks which I reviewed and swatched HERE.

Items needed for depot:

  • Palette
  • White glue
  • Knife
  • Rubbing alcohol
  • Lipsticks

You would want to use rubbing alcohol to sanitize all the empty pans and even the knife to prevent any contamination.

Steps:

  1. Cut out a section of lipstick using the knife
  2. Use the knife and press the lipstick into the pan
  3. Place some white glue into the empty slot for the pan
  4. Peel out the labels for labelling on the other side of the palette

An alternative way of depotting your lipstick is to melt the lipstick. I avoided this fuss despite your depotted lipstick being neater and more "professional" looking.

How to melt your lipstick for depotting?

  1. Find a stainless steel spoon.
  2. Cut a portion of the lipstick into the spoon.
  3. Use a lighter and light the bottom of the spoon to melt the lipstick.
  4. Pour the melted lipstick into the empty pan, and let it cool on an even surface area.

ENSURE that the lipstick does not boil. If it does, this will change the texture and colour of the lipstick.

After depotting, your lipstick in the tube should still be useable for normal usage!

And here is how my lipstick palette looks like!

I hope this post is useful!

NOTD: Chinese New Year

Hi all!

Today is the Chinese new year, the first day of the Lunar Calendar!

First off, I would like to wish all those who celebrate it a HAPPY LUNAR NEW YEAR!

新年快乐!

(picture is from wikipedia)

Hope you are enjoying your holidays spent with your relatives and friends! I am not doing any visiting though since all my relatives are overseas, but at least I get to spend my quality time with my family :)

For my nails, I am sticking to the most obvious colour, red!

L-R:

Essence 67 Make it golden, 66 Shiny Goddess, Essie Limited Addiction Essie Shine Of the Times

Initially, I wanted to apply the gold glitter chunks on top of the red polish but I think it just doesn't look right.

So I ended up applying the gold glitters on a bronze polish on my ring finger.

As usual, glitter polish on the ring finger and flakies on the thumb.

This is my first time wearing a red polish because I am always intimidated by red. However, I find that this red actually suits my skintone. It is quite cool-toned, something similar to the dark red blood you get from our main arteries.  I purchased this Essie polishe, almost 7 months back in Hong Kong (haul post HERE) for $7! I think I would be wearing this Essie red polishes more often now.

Today, I am ending this post with my cutie-pie.

Yu Sheng is my favourite part of CNY! Someone is staring at the salmon!

Haul: Black Friday Deals and more!

Hi!

Black Friday was so long ago but I only came about doing this haul now.

Back in November, Sigma Makeup has free worldwide shipping for the black friday deals and I picked up an angled brus and a duo fiber stippling brush to add on to my brush collection. More indepth review on these on a separate post.

Next, Violet Lips online store had 50% off and free worldwide shipping as well! These are not for daily wear or for the faint hearted but I thought I pick some up to try just for the fun of it.

I like the leopard lips the most, which one do you like? Will definitely post pictures up once I know how to use them. Apparently I hear that the application is really difficult and cracks are inevitable if one is careless.

And I have finally gotten my hands on a Giorgio Armani Eyes to Kill eyeshadow! Despite the 20% off online then, these are still of a hefty price - around $40 per pot! I really wanted to get more but they were to costly to me. This has been on my wishlist for about a year so I guess I still gave in purchasing one during this 20% off sale.

The colour I purchased is 01 Blast of Blue. Funny how only a little bit of blue is peeking through the gold eyeshadow.

As I have finish my first bottle, I thought that this product is worth repurchasing. View my review HERE.

And finally, this is another purchase from the SG_BEAUTY livejournal community where you can purchase 2nd hand or new products from other members.

Guess how much I scored this for? Only $4 for a full sized DHC cleansing oil!

I apologize if this post is not that helpful with the lack of swatches and review (I promise to do them on a separate post!). I guess my message for this post is let you know where you can purchase your cosmetics and skincare products at a more wallet-friendly price. One would be from SG_BEAUTY community and another would be to look out for Black Friday / Cyber Monday / Friends and Famly sales online.

For deals, I would tweet about them most of the time. So if you would like to know more of deals that I have spotted, you can follow me on twitter. My username is iamicefrost.

How to: change your eye shape using an eyeliner (ft Physicians Formula Gel Liner)

Hello all!

Recently, Sam from Pixiwoo did two separate tutorials on how to make ones eyes look rounder or sultrier-looking with the aid of eyeliners. I decided to try out on my own eyes with my new found love - Physicians Formula Shimmer Strips Custom Eye Enhancing Gel Liner which I have reviewed on them a few days back HERE.

Before I show you my pictures, I would like to embed the two Youtube videos from Pixiwoo here:

I have relatively round eyes hence the Angelina Jolie eyeliner shape would suit me the best but I still went ahead and try both styles on each of my eye to see the difference.

Megan Fox Cat Eyes:

This method is to make sure that the eyeliner covers the entire lid, from the outer corner all the way to the inner corner. This is to ensure that your eyes look rounder as the top of your eyeball is "lined", emphasizing the semi-circle of your eyelid.

Angelina Jolie cat eyes makeup:

For this method, the main idea is to elongate your eyes, especially when your eyes are round. Eyeliner would end at the centre of the pupil to give your rounder eyes more definition at the outer corners.

Here is a comparison side by side:

Which do you prefer?

I personally prefer the Angelina Jolie cat eyeliner look more because first, it makes my round eyes more sultry-looking. Secondly, i have more lid space for my eyeshadow to peek out.

Ever since I've watched Pixiwoo videos, I learnt a lot more on how to define my features better - my eyes.

Using this eyeliner method, here is my everyday, very neutral, almost "no makeup" makeup look.

This time,  I am using a brown eyeliner from Physicians Formula. I actually have a thinner flick than the one above with the green eyeliner so that my double eyelid is more visible.

Sorry for the extreme close up shot. This was taken hours after I wore the makeup so you can see some smudging of my mascara. Dang. Pardon for my red eyes as well, I had some difficulty taking out my contact lens. I lined my lower lash line with the brown eyeliner too. With my Physicians Formula eyeliner, I can always change up the look by using coloured eyeliners like purples, blues and greens. I can even make the eyeliner thicker for a more dramatic cat eye effect. Obviously, the look would be more complete with false eyelashes and a sheer wash of colours on the lids.

I hope this post is useful especially with the embedded Pixiwoo videos.
